Espolon: Death, 2016

skull shaped candle with a tear, a rose on the left and right, left is facing up and right is facing down.

Hand embroidery on calico, 7.5cm x 9cm

In 2016 Espolon commissioned me to make four more artwork, 3 of which had the same theme as their 2015 commissions (Technology, Equality and Death), with the addition of one inspired by a historic event (I chose Pompeii).  These commissions gave me an opportunity to further explore the themes, push my visual style away from solely being embroidered motifs on calico and form different compositions. This piece is simply a memorial artwork, whether for someones death or the end of a relationship, mourning loss.
