Patience, 2021
Mum has been doing needlepoint tapestries since before I was born and theyre all over the house, so when she asked if she could do one of this design I was honoured. I saw an old print of a seven of swords tarot card on pinterest and i immediately thought of someone knitting at speed, so i transformed the design into a portrait of my mama. She has taught me patience in so many ways, from embroidery and knitting, to gardening and nurturing life. The flower and be details on her dress reference a previous embroidery she has done so now she will be using yarn to recreate it, yarnception style.
Its emotional collaborating with mum in this way because my chronic pain has taken so much from my independence, but on this occasion, her 30 years of experience doing these tapestry kits and understanding my artistic process so deeply, she is the perfect person to execute my ideas in this different medium. She added a deconstructed version of my logo with the skull, pencil and embroidery thread, as well as adding a tape measure too.
