Espolon: Equality, 2016

embroidery of a laptop with whimsical shape flowing from the screen filled with wheelchair, razor, Hijabi, woman with afri, consent, depression, sexuality and zines.

Hand embroidery on calico, 8cm x 13cm

In 2016 Espolon commissioned me to make four more artwork, 3 of which had the same theme as their 2015 commissions (Technology, Equality and Death), with the addition of one inspired by a historic event (I chose Pompeii). These commissions gave me an opportunity to further explore the themes, push my visual style away from solely being embroidered motifs on calico and form different compositions.

This artwork represented the online feminist community I curated/attracted through my art and sharing my politics. How social media could be used for good, connecting people and communities.
