This embroidery is my love letter to my home city of London and an appreciation of music of Black origin (Grime and Rap), as well as the culture surrounding it. I combined album art, musicians merch, political banners, references to lyrics, food and drinks, clothing, oyster cards, dogs I knew and weed paraphernalia.
This artwork pushed peoples perception of embroidery once again, seeing objects in art relatable to their everyday lives. I was at Grime raves and people would come up to me and say βAre you the person who sewed that chicken box?β It also connected me to musicians whose work I admire and they gave me mutual respect.
